Professor Berrington is Co-Director of the Centre for Trials and Population Health Data Science at the Institute of Cancer Research and a Visiting Professor at Imperial College London.

She is an internationally recognised expert in the health effects of ionizing radiation and the late-effects of cancer treatments. Since 2022 Professor Berrington has been the co-PI of the Breast Cancer Now Generations Study, a prospective cohort of 110,000 UK women designed to study the causes of breast cancer and outcomes after a breast cancer diagnosis. She was previously the head of the Radiation Epidemiology Branch at the US National Cancer Institute where she initiated and led cohorts of breast cancer and pediatric cancer survivors. Professor Berrington has served on many international and national committees and is currently Vice-Chair of the US National Academies Nuclear & Radiation Studies Board, and President of the International Society of Radiation Epidemiology & Dosimetry.
