Dr Miriam MUTEBI Consultant Breast Surgical Oncologist, Assistant Professor Aga Khan University Hospital Kenya

Dr. Miriam Mutebi is a Consultant Breast Surgical Oncologist in the Department of Surgery at Aga Khan University, Nairobi, Kenya. She is also a clinical epidemiologist and health systems researcher, with a focus on understanding barriers to cancer care for women in sub-Saharan Africa and designing systems-level interventions to mitigate those barriers.

She serves on the Board of Directors of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and is the Immediate Past President of the African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC). She is also a Past President of the Kenya Society of Haematology and Oncology (KESHO).

Dr. Mutebi is the Co-Founder of the Pan-African Women’s Association of Surgeons, established to mentor women surgeons and strengthen leadership capacity to improve surgical and pathology services across the continent. She is also a member of the Kenya Association of Women Surgeons.

She currently serves as Co-Chair of the National Cancer Taskforce in Kenya and Chair of the Commonwealth Taskforce for the Elimination of Cervical Cancer. She is a Commissioner on multiple Lancet Commissions, including Women, Power and Cancer, Cancer in Sub-Saharan Africa, and Breast Cancer.

In recognition of her contributions to global oncology and cancer equity, Dr. Mutebi was the recipient of the 2024 ASCO Humanitarian Award and was listed among the Top 100 Most Influential People in Oncology in 2025 by OncoDaily.
