Dr Giota MITROU World Cancer Research Fund International United Kingdom

Dr Mitrou is the Executive Director of Research and Policy at WCRF International. With over 18 years of experience in senior roles within the science and policy department, Dr Mitrou has focused on advancing cancer prevention and survivorship strategies and advocating for policies to promote nutrition and physical activity. She was involved in the secretariat for the WCRF/AICR Third Expert Report that led to the 2018 WCRF/AICR Cancer Prevention Recommendations that have been used extensively by health professionals and policymakers worldwide. In her current role, she directs the work of the Global Cancer Prevention Programme (CUP Global). She also leads our partnership with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) on the World Code against Cancer. Furthermore, Dr Mitrou is responsible for the policy activities at national and international level working closely with Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), NCD alliance and with WHO cancer, alcohol and nutrition groups. Before joining WCRF, Dr Mitrou worked at the National Cancer Institute in the US and the University of Cambridge. She holds a PhD in molecular epidemiology from the University of Cambridge and has published widely on diet and cancer.
