Dr. Tomohiro Matsuda is a cancer epidemiologist specializing in population-based cancer registries, survival analysis, and international comparisons. Since the early design phase of Japan’s Act on Promotion of Cancer Registry, implemented in 2016, he has played a central role in establishing and advancing the national cancer registry system. He has led major initiatives such as the Monitoring of Cancer Incidence in Japan (MCIJ) project, providing essential indicators for national cancer control policy. Internationally, he has contributed to global collaborations including EUROCARE and CONCORD, and serves as a leader in IARC’s Global Initiative for Cancer Registry Development (GICR) and the ATLAS project, promoting cross-national and interdisciplinary cancer research.
