Dr Mutura E. Wanja is an experienced oncologist with 15 years of clinical practice which include 10 years in general practice and extensive expertise in both oncology and palliative care. I am currently pursuing a masters in epidemiology and biostatistics to enhance my skills in clinical research, public health and health systems improvemnet. My professional journey include serving in various roles as follows:
1. Clinical and radiation oncologist at Garissa Regional Cancer Center (April 2025 to date)
2. Senior Registrar in Radiation oncology at the University of Nairobi/ Kenyatta National Hospital (September 2020- February 2025
3. Senior Medical Officer: Internal Medicine (2018- 2020), Emergency medicine (2015), Obstetric and gynecology (2014- 2015), Palliative care (2012- 2025)
4. medical officer intern (2010-2011)
Policy and health system support:
I have contributed to policy and protocol development, namely:
1. breast cancer screening and early diagnosisaction plan (2021- 2025)
2. health technology regulatory sandbox modeling (2025)
3. establishing the first gender based violence unit in North eastern Kenya
Community services:
I am actively involved in community service through medical camps, health talks
my research focuses on cervical cancer treatment outcomes in HIV, implementation of treatment guidelines in resource settings, malignant melanoma.
