Dr Iacopo Baussano

Dr Iacopo Baussano, infectious diseases physician (M.D. & CIDSp) and epidemiologist (M.Sc., Ph.D.), is the Leader of the Public Decision Science Team, within the Early Detection, Prevention and Infections (EPR) Branch at the International Agency for Research on Cancer, World Health Organization (IARC/WHO), Lyon, France.

Before joining the Agency in 2012, Dr Baussano worked with Médecins sans Frontières, at the University Hospital of Verona, Italy, at the Center for Oncologic Prevention in Turin, Italy, and at the School of Public Health of the Imperial College of London, UK, where his investigations were mostly focused on infectious disease control among vulnerable populations in both high- and low/middle-income countries.

In the field of cervical cancer control and elimination, he combines quantitative and predictive modelling with field-epidemiology work to assess the impact of HPV vaccination and
HPV-DNA based screening in both high- and low/middle-income countries (LMICs).

Dr Baussano is currently leading the Center of Excellence to monitor the impact of HPV vaccination in low-and middle-income countries (CHRONOS) and is actively engaged in knowledge and technology transfer from HICs to LMICs.
