Jin Young leads the Gastric Cancer Prevention Team at the IARC/WHO, where she focuses on international research to advance the understanding and prevention of gastric cancer. Her etiological work includes major projects such as ENIGMA (global risk factor surveys for gastric cancer) and prediagnostic biomarker discovery initiatives, including META-GC and INTL-CC, aimed at improving risk stratification. She also co-leads large-scale randomized clinical trials, including HELPER and GISTAR, which assess the effect of H. pylori eradication combined with endoscopic follow-up in reducing gastric cancer risk in the general population. Her team contributes actively to European initiatives such as EUROHELICAN and TOGAS, which aim to implement and optimize gastric cancer prevention strategies across Europe. More recently, her team has taken a leading role in the development of European guidelines and quality assurance schemes for gastric cancer prevention, screening, and care, as part of the European Commission Initiative on Gastric Cancer. Jin Young holds an MSc from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and an MPhil and PhD in cancer epidemiology from the University of Cambridge.
